Please help me, dealer only replaces 1 tire instead of set

I recently purchased a 2009 "CERTIFIED" Toyota Camry LE.

Foolishly I only checked tread depth on the front and rear on one side (thinking both sides are the same). Dealer put new tires in the front, but not the back

Mistake... When I take it home I notice that the rear passenger's tire has thread depth on the outside of 2/32" and on the inside 4/32".

Toyota certification calls for 5/32" MINIMUM

Took it to the dealer and they took it in the back to "check it out". Came back out and they had replaced that one tire.

They left the other back tire which has barely 5/32" on the outside and about 7/32" on the inside.

I had to leave (and the person helping me knew my time was short) but I'm planning on going back and complaining about this. On the drive to work (freeway speed) I noticed that if I didn't hold the steering wheel, the car would start to drift left. It was not doing this prior to the one tire change!?

What should I tell/expect from the dealer? Should I contact Toyota?
Doesn't seem right to me to sell a certified vehicle with 3 new tires and one with 30K miles on it.

Well, it's a chintzy move on the dealer's part, but replacing the other worn rear tire with 5/32" left wasn't necessary...it meets most state regulations for tread depth and there's no requirement in the ceritfication that all tires be of uniform depth.

As for the pulling to the left, that should still be covered under the certification. But I would not wait long to have it addressed.

so I look at my "new" tire and notice it's a SUMMER tire!

so now I have 2 new and one used TURANZA 400EL's all weather 80,000mi tires with a tread-wear rating of 640

and one TURANZA ER33 summer tire with a tread-wear rating of 140 and no mileage guarantee.

Wow... To boot, the salesperson promised to meet me this morning at the dealership and he wasn't there. So I talked to the new car manager and left a message for the used car manager.
Got a call back and the guy was all reluctant like I'm asking for too much. He was especially reluctant when I mentioned that the car most definitely has a chamber alignment problem considering the outside of the tires is more worn than the inside.

we live in Ohio for God's sake, what happens when you put a summer tire and an all weather tire on the front wheels of FWD car in the snow?!

this is such a PITA going back and fourth and having to "haggle" for new tires and an alignment on a car that should have never been certified without these things.

i agree with jd,but dont realy know what the the deal was.
if you got a great deal & the dealer made minimum $$ or
if you paid book value. yeah i think i'd throw 2 matching tires
on the car if it were me, but all depends
if thats the way that dealer/sales man works
i'd be looking someone else next time

Good luck
