fluid change

I have an 08 Suburban and was told by a GM mechanic (who changed the oil and filter) that I should change the fluid in the front and rear differential and also the transfer case. He recommended synthetics at an installed price of $280. First Q. does this really need to be done? The vehicle has 48k miles and he said this should have been done at 30k. Second Q. Is this price out of line? Third Q. Is non-synthetic just as good assuming regular maintenance?

thanks.

If the oil looks good and smells good i would leave it unless i got a sales bonus.Manufactures recommended lubricants are fine. ( sometimes i think we live in a very waist full society )

I don't work at a dealership ...

If you plan on keeping this vehicle and using this to do truck work etc...

most with no problems replace drivetrain fluids all every 30 -40,ooo miles..

also make sure the correct fluids are used. your vin # should be used to extract this info...

use of 4WD or not these fluids need replacing..

I would not have the dealership do this work ... too expensive..

I do this fluid change myself...I don't trust anyone to do this correctly..

find a transmission repair shop that is familar with this vehicle and with the fluid requirements have them replace the fluids and tranny filter...

[NO FLUSHING ]...

If you have a locking diff this was to be done at the first oil change !
