Hey guys....newbie to the boards here and a longtime military aircraft modeler. Just purchased the 1/12 Tamiya McLaren MP 4/6 and am in the process of securing the necessary AM stuff. Opinions please as to the best detail sets out there: Perfest Parts, Formula Perfect, etc. Also, where can I get the Perfect Parts stuff? Bear with me, I'll get into the groove soon. Thanks....Cliff

Welcome to the dark side! lol I used to be a huge 1:72/1:48 scale Vietnam and WWII era aircraft affectionado but I noticed the other day that I only have about 6-10 aircraft and aside from having built some cockpits and assembling some wings, I haven't built an aircraft in about 16 years. Cars are SO much more addicting, because you can do SO much more to them when you get out of the "historically correct" frame of mind.
For your detail parts, I would start my search at Hobby Search Japan, Hobby Link Japan, Hiroboy's site (I think it's hiroboy.com), ebay is obviously a good place to look.
I'm not into race cars, but since this model seems to pop up about 3 times a month from other builders on here, I'd say you shouldn't have any trouble finding detail items...but I think that aside from some kit specific details, most of your oil/coolant/air lines, fittings and stuff like rivets and bolt heads can be scratch built to save money or just purchased at most any on line model "store".
I am probably not being very much help, but I'm sure someone else will pop in and put you in a better direction.
Again, welcome to cars! Hopefully you'll find them as enjoyable as most of us, and don't be afraid to accidentally post up a few pics of your aircraft!

hey I also got the 1/12 Tamiya McLaren MP 4/6 yesterday! I checked the optional parts, and perfect parts seems the only supplier providing full detail-up, but it is very difficult and expensive to get it.
I think this kit itself is very detailed anyway... Of course it would be great to hear some even better optional parts!
