you need to check to make sure that the amp is getting power ground and a remote. If it is then try unplugging the sub and see if it comes on. if you have a blowen sub then the amp might go into protect. if it still doesnt come on then try to smell the amp, if it smells burnt then it is junk. What kind is it, what are you running with it?

alright, I looked more closely, and I am even more confused now. now, when i turn on the car, the red light on the amp goes on right away and it stays on. but when i turn on the cd player, the red light cuts out the second i turn it on. i think that probably means the remote wire is messed up but im not sure. the light on the amp turns on when the car is turned on but turns off when the cd player is turned on. any thoughts?

Your amp should not turn on when the car is off. make sure that the remote is not + when the car is off, check your power conections to see if they are backwards. you could also have a bad ground. make sure that the ground has a clean surface, the paint is scraped of and that you are not using a painted screw. use a volt meter to see how many volts you are getting at the amp and remote, it should be 12v or more.
good luck
