Strange noise

After I start my car I hear a howling noise. The sound doesn't increase or decrease when I press or depress the gas pedal. Inside the car it sounds like it's coming from under my back seat. When I go outside and listen underneath it is louder of course but coming from that same general area. No codes on the meter.
Could it be my fuel pump fixing to go out???

you could listen with the engine off.have someone turn key to on
you only have a few seconds before pump shuts down but that will
comfirm if its the pump

Is there anything special I should be listening for? When I turn the key I hear it engage.

no,i was just saying to listen w/engine off so you could verify
that it is or is'nt the pump making the noise your hearing
if it is the pump(like you think)is it ready to quit? not really
you can check the pressure.pumps usually start to loose pressure
gradually, rare to just stop but is possible & have seen.nomal to
have estended crank or hard start when going bad.
hope this answers your ??
Good luck

I had a pump suddenly go out on me with a Sunfire a few years ago, prolly why I'm paranoid about it...
I will check the pressure, where is the test port for the fuel pressure located?
