I'm experiencing a slight leak at the water pump cover. Before anyone say it's the water pump, it has been changed. My question is do suppose to put some sealant around the seal on the cover or is suppose to automatically seal?

It's a 97 Cadillac Deville, Northstar (V8).

There is an O-ring gasket on the pump itself that seals against the housing. On the black steel thermostat housing there is a gasket. Which side is it leaking at?

I'm going to assume it's leaking at the outer part of the pump because there is a slight drip where you screw the cover back on.

If it is the thermostat housing, I'd replace the gasket if it hasn't already been done. If the thermostat itself hasn't been replaced, now is the perfect time to do it!

I'll give that a try then. Thanks.
