2004 Ford Taurus--Check Engine Temp

On my way home, my temperature gauge went almost into the red, and the "Check Engine Temp" displayed on the display panel. What does that mean, and what should I do?

it mean your engine is over heating .first thing to check is coolant level and if its low look around for leaks if its not low then you could have a thermostat not opening or a bad water pump
