I get a bang(crack) from time to time from the dash area.
I have no clue where it comes from.
It sounds like a rock has hit the wind screen.
Talking it over with my brother his does it too. He has a 2006 sierra.
Any ideas what this might be?
Cheers

Intermediate Steering Shaft is probably what you are hearing. Notorious for producing a knocking/clunking type sound at low speeds during turns.

maybe it is a rock hitting the windshield.
a bang would / should create a vibration. any vibration in the occurance of this ? If so the steering components need attention . also shocks mounting hardware ..
HVAC ducting doors can make noises at times.
sounds are hard to diagnose too many areas of the potential source.
could even be the drivetrain .
when this occurs give vehicle operating details. speed, turning , shifting, stop, start etc....

Thank's all.
This noise only happens 3-4 times a year.
It is not affected by turning or any other action it just does it those 3-4 times a year.
We think it is an HVAC door or a loose weld/rivet in the fire-wall.
I thought a lot of others would have had this noise.(and found the cure)
Again
Thank's All

I also have a 2002 with the same problem you have, a loud crack coming from the dash near the steering wheel. My truck does it everyday and I think it is the plastic or fiberglass in the dash that expand when it gets to a certain temp. in the cab

!rst time it scares you but.
Only notice we had was very cold or hot at start-up.
We don't have the only 3 that do it.
You could be right too.
