my 97 astro van will not turn over. i had a cylinder 1 misfire so i changed the fuel injector and then when i went to start it all i got was a click from the starter. changed the starter and still the same thing. almost acts like something catches the engine not allowing it to turn over.

Did injector leak a bunch of fuel into intake? If so, you are now hydrolocked, you have a piston full of liquid gas that won't compress- Chances are real good it is number 4 or 3- middle of either bank, so pull each spark plug and see if engine turns over- look out for spraying gas- I'd put a rag over each plug hole first.

yes that was the problem thank you.new problem lol. i pulled the plugs, drained the oil, pulled the fuel pump relay, cranked and cranked to clear fuel, put the plugs back in, cranked and cranked to burn the fumes, put the fuel pump relay back in, and cranked and locked right back up. 4 times did this procedure and now getting frustrated. please help, why would my cylinders be filling right back up with fuel rather than burning it? p.s. did check for spark on all plugs and spark was good.

Why??? Did you drop off an o-ring when you changed your fuel injector? Did you break an injector tube?
Because you have a severe leak in your injector lines (or an individual injector) under your plenum, and there are two "vent" holes that lead into #3 and #4 intake valves- that allows raw gas to enter those pistons. Time to pull out your (CSI) Central Sequential Port Injector.
What does your fuel pressure leak down check look like, does it hold 60 psi for 5 minutes, or does it fall back to 0 psi in 10 seconds? You have leaking injector lines internal to plenum if it does not hold pressure.
CSI is a non-repairable injector assembly consisting of a fuel meter body, fuel pressure regulator, fuel
injector and poppet nozzles with fuel tubes. (some call this a spider assembly) CSI assembly is housed in the lower manifold assembly. Fuel pump and pressure regulator maintain fuel pressure at 60-66 psi (4.2-4.6 kg/cm2) under all operating conditions.
When injector is energized, pressurized fuel passes down fuel distribution tubes to poppet nozzles
located at rear of intake valves. Fuel pressure forces poppet valves open, spraying fuel into cylinders
when intake valves are open. As fuel pressure drops (due to all poppets opening or injector deenergizing),
poppet nozzle spring pressure closes poppet nozzle until pressure again builds high enough to overcome poppet nozzle spring pressure. Excess fuel is returned to the fuel tank via the fuel return line.

did you make sure when you changed starter if any shims fell out?

Uhmmm.....
We've already determined the problem was not the starter..it was changed, but unnecessarily.....Keep reading, and it appears the hydrolocking is the issue.....we are chasing a leak into the valve cavity at this point.
