Hi Guys,
I've been using mr topcoat for a while. I spray it directly from the can to the surface that has to be cleared. As i started to airbrush, i was wondering if you can decant MR topcoat and shoot it thru the airbrush. Does anybody here has some advice how to do this?

Sure, you can do it. It sprays into the cup kind of thick, but you can add some Mr. Color Thinner to it and run it through the airbrush no problem.

You may thinn TopCoat with Tamiya Acrylic Thinner and Gunze C Thinner. You can use whatever nozzle you like. You have to thinn it properly and apply right air pressure for given nozzle and desired effect.
I used it both 0.3 and 0.5mm nozzle with different thinning ratio. Spray can nozzle IRC is about 0.8mm

Is Mr topcoat acrylic based? I have Tamiya acrylics thinner and will certainly try this, because mr color thinner is hard to find in Belgium?

Yes, it is. Using Tamiya Acrylic Thinner is far more safe for decals then Gunze C Thinner.

mr topcoat is Acrylic-based, I would thin it with something like Tamiya X-20a, not lacquer base one.
Just by the way, I always doubt if acrylic based clear coating is strong enough to protect the model. Certainly it is friendly with decals, but can I rely it as the single protection coating?

To thin Mr. Topcoat (B 501) i use Mr. Color Thinner from Gunze. I sprays very well and is not yellowing. I use this Clear and Thinner from almost 3 Years with very good results. Now problems at al if i sealed the Decals! How ever you have to know that drying time is very long even if the clear dry imedatlly on the surface. My experience is that after many days i took the model in my hands and i got some beautiful finger prints on the clear... :-( It was a pain to polish this out.

I will try it to thin with Tamiya thinner and Mr Color. About the drying. I heard you have to wait at least a week before starting to polish.

If drying time is an issue, buy a food dehydrator and modify the racks to fit your model parts. One of the all-time best purchases I ever made.
For every 10 degrees F over ambient temperature, drying time is cut in half.
Buff out Tamiya sprays in a few hours. Buff out enamels/other slow paints after overnight. Use it to cure putty, primer, decals. Use it to warm your paint & body before spraying. Buy a separate one to make your beef jerky

With mine, I buff Finisher's paints that equals Tamiya and Gunze's Lacquers in just 20 minutes without problems!

Drying is no issue, because i work on more than on model at the same time. So no need for a food dehydrator. thanks for all the information. I've learned a lot.

Hi Guys,
I forgot to ask something. I always thin my tamiya acrylics with isopropyl alcohol. Because Mr Topcoat is acrylics based is it also possible to thin Mr Topcoat with isopropyl alcohol?
