Has anyone any information how the kit manufacturers in Japan survived the terrible earthquake / tsunami?
The smaller garage kit manufacturers might be worse off than the bigger brands I fear.

think nearly all the model manifacturers are based in Shizuoka city, in the south of japan, so think no big problem for our models.

HLJ is also located in Shizuoka, close to Tamiya, Hasegawa, Fujimi, et al. Their website (http://www.hlj.com/specials/sendaiearthquake?utm_medium=slide&utm_campaign=TOP_page&utm_content=earthquake-banner.png) gives a pretty good indication of how the quake effected them.
They reopened for business just a couple days later.
That's the Japan that I know and remember. May the rest of the country be quick to recover as well.

You can look up Miyagi (not Miyaji!), which is close to the epicenter, Fukushima, where four nuclear reactors are about to blow up, the capital city Tokyo just for a reference, then Shizuoka, where most of the kit manufacturers are located.
HLJ is in Tochigi Prefecture (Rainbow Ten is in Shizuoka), north of the greater Tokyo area, and it was struck by the earthquake real hard. You can see a glimpse of it.

If unsupported model kit towers start to fall, that's fairly strong, but not quite life-threatening yet. If objects slide out of the shelf, that's pretty bad.

And Mount Fuji should be still quiet... Bless.
