If I had an owners manual I wouldn't have to post this.

I'm about to do my first oil change on the GP and need to know the oil capacity. Its an 07 Grand prix GT (supercharged for those who don't know the GTP nameplate went away) and I saw the write up for the Series 2 at 4.5-5 quarts, but want to make sure its the same for the Series 3.

Thanks in advance

4.6-4.7 quarts will be good. 5 quarts if you use an oversized filter.

Speaking of filter, why is it so SMALL? I grabbed the Purolator filter that the book called for and was astonished at how tiny it is for such a big V6.

Is there a listing for what larger filters may be compatible but still in the Purolator brand?

AC Delco PF52 rings a bell. So whatever crosses to that for Purolator.

For those of us that use WIX brand oil filters the WIX PN is 51036 for the Delco PF52 equivalent.

WIX 51036 (http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51036)

Thanks for the info. I'll have to remember this at the next oil change,.

I run the 51036 and buy a 5qt jug of oil. Just easier and cheaper than a 51040 (stock filter) and then individual 4.5qts.

Awesome! I didn't know we could get bigger oil filters. If I just did an oil change and wanted to put the bigger filter on, will I lose a bunch of oil by taking the filter off without draining the oil first?

You'll lose what is contained in the oil filter only. Just be sure to let the engine sit so all oil drains back into the crankcase and cool off awhile before doing it.

Once I can get a decent photshoot done I will. Betwee the weather not cooperating and working 50+ hour weeks I just can't get the cat clean and get a good picture yet.
