How serious is it when the Check Engine Light comes on? It comes on after the car is started, and stays on while I am driving. I have a hole in my tailpipe, so could it be an emission problem?:confused:

Any local Auto parts store can pull the diagnositc Trouble code (DTC) for Free.
Include the Make, model, year, Eng type, mileage, and DTC in your thread.

I have a 1998 Malibu LS with a six-cylnder engine (I believe) and around 1,006 miles. What do you mean by DTC?
