How do you think - how many opening doors C-Class DTM has? Does anybody have pictures of this Merc with open doors?

little ot:
Just I wonder why revell choosed to make these ugly (and hard to make, specially the black audi in half flat/gloss finishing) versions of the DTM cars.
I want to build the deutsche post yellow mercedes and the winning-since-a-life audi a4 redbull.
Saw the patto's decal and saw how crap they are (half are missing) and had to redraw all alone, once again, but in my showcase want the nicest (imo) liveries of these racers.
ot end.

They probably choose those cars because they were able to get the legal rights without any headaches. Also the Trilux car has a semi finish on it aswell according to the pictures I posted here!:sly:
:iceslolanI want to build the yellow Deutsche Post aswell(already have the decals) but you have to do alot of modifications to the kit to make it a 2008 spec car like the rear wing & below the sidedoors but most is similar to the 2009,its waiting in the ranks for me along with Ralf Schumacher's(Laureus-chrome car) & Paul Di Resta's AMG.
I also looked at the decals from Patto's & yeah your right too that some of the decals are missing on the Red Bull like the Red Bull decals from the rear wing & I also looked at Tomcycks car & has missing decals too which are the "strong & natural"from the sides & "Das Cola von Red Bull" from the back of the car.Plus by the sounds of it they also seem too thick too but I still might get them & play around with them!

the redbull cola Audi gave me a lot of headaches, cause I made the BIG mistake to use the Patto's decals as a guide, when the actual car is really different.
Since that day, ONLY pictures of the real things to make custom decals.
Nearly the same for the deutsche post Merc: too many logos are missing, and I really dunno why, so I also made the Postbrief version.
1 months of trashed work on the colacar, but now I can make a correct winning redbull audi ;)
btw...any idea on how to make the flat effect with glossy decal letters?
I absolutely dunno.

Easy way to do it is to paint the flat black, polish it out as you would, then put the decal that is glossy on top of the flat. It will appear glossy. Just make sure to trim any excess film, as it will appear glossy, too.
Any interior pics? Also, any better detail sets for it yet?

thank you gasdriver for these sharp pictures. You are putting me on the spot now---making me posting a WIP, I will definitely take some pics in progress, but my skill is nowhere close to you guys. lets see how it turns out, if its terrible i rather hide it from embarassing myself. I guess these are the only ones available out there. good thing to see all of you are doing the same project as i looked at several forums, only very few people are working on it. If any one can provide interior and opening hoods, door, trunk will be wonderful.
thanks

I found some pics on flikr I think that you can only link to (not save as) these pics. It's one of the interior and a few of the engine/suspension.
PM me if you'd like the links.

i think what he means is if they will be packed in US version, I called them they say these and the SLS won't be packed in US version. and I don't see them go cheaper than $40 in the model shop, and wont be cheaper in ebay with shipping for now.

Easy way to do it is to paint the flat black, polish it out as you would, then put the decal that is glossy on top of the flat.
whoa... deja vu.
why would you want to polish flat black?
it isn't exactly ideal to apply decals over a flat paint base.
I would say that you might want to forgo decals and do it the hard way.
Flat black base and then carefully make and apply a negative mask and spray the gloss parts.
With the black text, you might be able to simply use gloss clear instead of actual black paint. This would make spraying the Gloss White on top easier.

Again, it's just my thought. You don't have to. I thought it might be an idea. I could be wrong. It's happened before.
The way the thing looks is that if you just put the decal over the flat paint or top coat, you'd get the "gloss" effect on the decal only. That's what I saw. Take it fwiw.

since i am building it with the decals provided, i am going to paint it gloss black, decal it, then semi gloss clear coating it, or even flat clear, it should be ok. any better ideas from you experts?

well, applying another clear on top other than a gloss won't give you the correct gloss text.
I suppose another method is to do as you say and to paint the body gloss black, decal then apply the matt/flat clear on top then mask off everything but the text and shoot some gloss clear over the text decal area.
i.e make a negative mask/template using decals as guide and use this to help mask the matt/flat parts afterwards.
Make sense?
Either way, to get gloss text on matt surface is going to be fiddly.

DM--wouldn't you agree that just simply putting the decals straight on top of a matte or semi-matte surface would translate into a "gloss" appearance of the decals themselves? (Here I'm assuming that the black, "shadow" decals on the hood are actual decals.) After that, don't top coat it anything. Just be done with it.
I see the masking you're talking about to be a massive PITA...maybe it's just me.
EDIT: I see that the decal on the front part of the hood is one piece. Yick. Maybe some enterprising decal maker would consider making a black decal of the "Plus" that one could put on after the one that comes with the kit to achieve the "gloss" effect? That would be the absolute easiest answer...or, maybe buying another decal sheet from Revell, if that's possible?

Decals don't usually want to stick to anything other than a gloss surface.
You could probably get it to settle down using setting solutions but that doesn't/won't alleviate the issue that you sometimes get (so you might get lucky and not have any issues) with silvering with clear parts of decals when you try to apply them to anything other than a gloss surface.
So yes, you can simply apply the decals over a matt/flat surface if you want but it isn't a guaranteed thing to work out.

I do this a lot with the frames of MotoGP bikes and the decals that go on there. You do have to work the decals pretty hard with MicroSol to get any silvering out. Once you do, it's ok. Just takes a little work. This is one of the reasons I suggested to smooth out the flat finish. It keeps this from happening, in however so slight a way.
This problem makes me want to buy an aftermarket set of decals for this car. It just seems like a bear of a project to get that front just right. Yick.

hey guys, i dont know how many of you are working on this kit, but does anyone realize that there are no decals for the A pillars? so i contacted revell, hope to buy an extra sheet of decals from them for A pillar, and here is what the revell's rep said: (directly from the emails)
"You are correct! The box art does show the pillars to be (white). According to one of our Product Managers it was indicated that the illustrator shows the car on the box art in white This may have been an instant when they needed to get something on the box art to get the ready for a trade show and thusly; no one had caught it. There are no decals in white for the pillars in the kit. Whatever ever decals are in this kit are the only ones available.
Due to this being a Revell German product we are unable sell extra decals from their model kits. These kits are not stocked here in our Elk Grove Village office and we have no idea what they have in inventory for this kit.
We can only suggest that you contact Revell Germany by going to www.revell.de (http://www.revell.de/), fill out their form them and ask them if they can sell you an extra decal sheet from this model kit. If you do decide to go to them please let them know you contacted us so they don’t send you over to us for handling."
she also spoke to the revell germay and came back to me with this:
"I spoke to another person about this.
He explained that at the time of the race the car was black. Even though there is another car with the pillars shown to be white there could have been a car change for any given reason. The first car may have been in an accident during a race. There are times in their garage they will have more than one car that will be raced. If one is in an accident then another one will be raced in its place.
At the time of the race the car was “black”. The illustrator painted the car to reflect the pillars showing sunlight image that could make it look like decal markings are in white. The box art does not show white decals for the pillars, only an image. Therefore, all information on the box is correct and there are no decals markings for the pillars in white.
However, on a one-time only basis we will process an order for you to get another decal sheet for kit 07128 – DTM Mercedes AMG.
We will have this order sent up to Germany for them to fill. When we get the order here in our office/warehouse then we will mail the order to you from our USA office. Allow 12-14 weeks for the order to reach you."
do you know what revell is trying to say? sunlight reflection? :shakehead:screwy::nono:
Revell have been very on top of my comments through out, great service, anyways i got my extra decal sheet much faster than i expected, good job revell:biggrin:

The box art does not show white decals for the pillars, only an image. Therefore, all information on the box is correct and there are no decals markings for the pillars in white.
However, on a one-time only basis we will process an order for you to get another decal sheet for kit 07128 – DTM Mercedes AMG.
We will have this order sent up to Germany for them to fill. When we get the order here in our office/warehouse then we will mail the order to you from our USA office. Allow 12-14 weeks for the order to reach you."
do you know what revell is trying to say? sunlight reflection? :shakehead:screwy::nono:

I am actually building the black mercedes benz version, not the audi. on the benz version, the A pillar has white dotted disperse pattern.
