SLP loudmouth

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and need a little advice. I have a 1999 formula that I want to make a few modifications to for better sound/hp. My first priority is exhaust. I want to go with either the SLP loudmouth or dual/dual.
I would prefer the loudmouth because it's a better sound (IMHO) and a few hundred bucks cheaper but I read that it can be "obnoxious" loud for neighbors and more importantly for local law inforcement. I don't care about upsetting the neighbors since my late night activities are long since behind me (I'm 33 and have a wife and two kids) but I don't want to get tickets every other month for a loud muffler (or resinator in this case).
Anyone out there with slp loudmouth exhaust installed tell me if it is loud enough to get tickets by local cops or if you have had no problems.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Darren

I've not had any problems with mine, and I've had it on for a year and a half now. I've gotten numerous compliments on the sound from it. The LS1's don't pop with the LM like the LT1's do. You'll love it on your car :D

Thanks blkcamaross. One more quick question. Most reviews I read are people raving about it but a few said it is real loud at cruising speeds where you are holding 1800-2200 rpm's. I even remember one saying you can forget listening to the radio or having a conversation with a passenger.
Is it really that bad? I only have stock sterio and if it can drown out my sterio and/or make having a conversation with my wife difficult then It may not be for me. I really love the sound bites and would love to order it but please be honest. Will I have problems at 2kish rpm's?

That is true, some people have it worse than others. I don't have the "drone" as badly as some, but at about 2k in 6th gear at aroune 80-85, it does give some people problems. It's never bothered me, because the sound is so much better than the stock SLP dual-dual that I had. I think it's what a V8 should sound like. If you don't cruise at those speeds on the highway, even up to 75-78 in 6th, you'll not have any problems. It's no problem then, only around the 2k rpm range in 6th.

Ok thanks. I think I'll get it and try it out. I heard headers will eliminate that problem but I don't plan on installing any for two years (afraid that kind of mod will void a bumper to bumper warranty I bought with the car). I figure I can run with them for two weeks and if I have any issues with the cops or my own ears I can always yank it and sell it as slightly used on ebay. I have a feeling I'll love it and never take the slp loudmouth off but we shall see.
Thanks again,

well if you don't want any tickets, the best is to go with duels, with 2 inch exhaust with cherry bombs b.c there the only legeal muffler with 2 1/2 bumb tubes. i had it on my 83 camaro with a 305, the fucker sounded great. i never got in any trouble.

He was talking about a specific exhaust made by SLP, their dual-dual setup. He wasn't talking about true dual exhaust from the headers back.
As for the LM, my guess is you'll love it. I plan on getting headers as well, and have heard that they won't void your warranty, but I'm not gonna test my luck. With my luck, I'd take it to a retarded dealership who knew nothing and would screw me. Just waiting for the odometer to turn 36001:D

Yeah, I've got several of my own vids with it on there, and know of other places to send you with links to videos if you're still undecided. ;)

Thanks for all the responses here. I have decided to try the slp loudmouth exhaust. After blkcamaross's response and talking with a few friends I feel pretty confident that I will not have a problem with the local police and loud muffler tickets.
I still have some concerns about the bad cabin resonation that I hear is brutally loud inside the car when holding a 2000-2300 rpm's. This may be a problem for me because I have an automatic 4-speed trans in my 99 formula so I hit 2000 rpm's at 65 (so basically any highway driving at all puts me in the rpm range).
There are a few suggestions I read about on how to reduce or eliminate this that I may try.
1). install headers (not ready for this yet so I'll move on)
2). buy or make a partition to seperate the trunk space from the cabin (not sure what he means by this. I was more into music then cars as a teenager so I am learning as I go here).
3). extend the pipes an extra inch (I assume he means the resinator needs to be an inch further back but I'm not 100%).
4). wedge a piece of rubber behind both rear defoggers (I may try this one first since it's simple enough to do and undo if it does not help).
If all else fails and the cabin resonation is too unbearable then I'll pull it off, sell it on ebay as used for a small loss and buy something like a flowmaster catback, hooker catback or slp dual/dual catback system.
Thanks again for all the replies.

I know of someone that didn't like the resonation on his A4, and got a bullet muffler to replace the resonator, and then like it tons...

my cousin has a 2001 firehawk with the loud mouth and its very loud and raspy. i think it sounds sweet. as far as drone and cruising speeds i don't think its bad at all. i like the loud mouth i think it adds character to his car. i dunno how much of a gain he got from it, but he ran 13.1@106 with bolt ons and a bad launch so. i think its a nice exhaust. he also has a flow master catback that he used to have on there and it sounds week almost stock.
