Hi everyone. I have an 01 Galant V6 with a Dead "Alleged" Transmission. I picked it up for dirt cheap Its got 134k miles on it. The guy thought it was due to the Wave Spring breaking, which from looking at the forums and online it is very possible that is the case. He had a "friend" check it out who wasn't a transmission guy. So here are my questions. Any help would be appreciated.
1. I didn't see a Check engine light on (Vehicle Runs). Would there be a code if the wave spring took the pump out?
2. Got a couple of referred transmission mechanics (haven't talked to them yet though). Would someone experienced be able to rebuild this without much problem. I am aware that there is a tool required in order to reinstall. http://www.transmissiondigest.com/tech/TD200508/200508ShiftPointers/200508ShiftPointers.htm
How many hrs are we talking.
3. Reman Transmissions- Any idea how much one would cost from Jaspar or somewhere and are they still susceptible to the same issue or would the faulty components be replaced with updated better components.
I don't want to waste time installing a junk yard transmission if it is going to have the same possibility of going out at any time due to these known faulty parts.
Basically my point is that I have seen posts that people have paid Dealers 2600 to 6000 to have there trans rebuilt.
$2600 to me seems pretty high and I am wondering can I get a reliable work done for around $1500 by a shop or a decent Mechanic (Meaning the referred ones).
Would like to keep the car, but I need to make sure it will be reliable for a college aged person to roll with.
I am open minded and am pretty mechanical myself. I do most of my own small repairs and maint. but have have never rebuilt a transmission or engine. I don't have the place or time to do this myself so any real knowledge would be helpful.
Thanks in advance and Rock On! :ylsuper:
