I am new here and hope to get some help! I have a 99 Venture. The 2 codes that are coming up are P0742 and 1811. I have done alot of research on this and just want some more opinions. I am being told to have the tranny rebuilt. But then read that some people just had the selonoid replaced.....I don't know what to do......Also, any opinions on just putting a used transmission in??? Thanks

Code 742 may be repaired with out transmission replace..

Code 1811 may be a problem inside transmissionn or just Computer control problem.

Needs tested out by a good transmission man that knows what he is doing.

A used transmission is like playing the loto.
Sometimes you get a winner and sometimes not.

I took it to Aamco who said because of the 1811 code...it should be rebuilt. How else do I get it tested?

Find a good repair shop with a good transmission man and have the test it out.
Or get a transmission capable scanner and a repair flow chart for that code and go threw the repair flow chart.
Also check TSB's for that code.

Most Aamco shop's are full rebuild happie people.
Check around and ask around for a good repair shop.
Good word of mouth will point you in right direction.

Hopefully I can get some more answers! I decided to put in a new (used) transmission. I have had the van back now for 2 days and it started shifting hard AGAIN!!! Could it be something other than the transmission????

Yes bit could be many things.
Go to post 2 and 4.
First thing you need to find a good repair shop and get codes and a good transmission scanner readout.
Post back any code no.

Well...the other problems that have been going are:
Left turn signal flashes fast only when the brakes are applied
When in park, apply brakes to shift out of gear, and the turn signal lights inside light up
ABS light randomly comes on
This all is leading me to believe it could be computer related....I am dropping it off at transmission shop today.
Thanks!

A good repairshop would be your best bet.
Let us know how it goes..

Computers do not dothem things.

I would be checking grounds and power feeds.
Also a bad ground on tail/parking/turnsignal lights and bad bulbs and bulb sockets can do things like that.

Just got back from transmission shop. They are pretty sure it is something electrical...they checked amps and volts. Said that was ok. Bad news is that 1811 code came up AGAIN. Seriously....what are the chances that I got another tranny with the EXACT same problem. My gut tells me it's not the tranny. They recommended taking it to an electrical shop to have everything tested!
Thanks again for all your feedback!!!!

Your turn signal/abs problem is most likely the ground shorting out in the real tail lights as was mentioned. Its not possible that its affecting the tranny that way. Sorry about the 1811 code, but I you rolled the dice with a junkyard tranny. Its time now to take it to a shop and have it rebuilt.
