How do I know if my starter is two or three bolts. Im trying to replace it I have two bolts out one was a pain in the neck but the starter still wont budge. I went to autozone bought a starter it was only two bolt pattern. Couldnt get the starter off so I went to advanceauto to get a hayes book no luck so the guy pulled it up it had three bolts but when he went to get the starter it only had two. Anyone have tips on removing it Ill dance at your next wedding. This is the hardest starter ive ever tried to replace.:banghead:

For the 2002 V6 the Factory Service Manual suggests there are two stud bolts (lower) and a bolt (top).

The factory service manual only speaks to a bolt and a stud bolt. Apparently the 3-bolt configuration is for the V6 and the two-bolt configuration is the V8.
