99 Alero No Rear Lower Brake Lights

Bulbs and fuses are good, the deck lid light is operational. The brake light and ABS lights on the dash have been on for over a year. Those lights are due to a bad wheel sensor. Could it be the brake switch on the pedal? I noticed 2 switches on the pedal, is 1 for the deck lid light and the other for the lower brakes lights?
Any fast answers would be appreciated.

I just replaced the brake switch on my 2000 Alero; one of the switches has one connector, the other switch has two connectors. The brake switch is the one with two connectors. The other switch turns off the cruise control when you hit the brakes. Since you've had your head in there to the point where you can see the brake switch, it's easy to remove. It turns about 90 degrees, then pops out. It's easier to pop it out, then remove the connectors. Before you remove it, note how far in it's mounted. There are several rows of "fins" which allow you to adjust how close it is to the brake pedal (how soon the switch makes contact). You'll want to reinstall it in the same position. Once you remove it, you can take it apart and wipe clean the contacts, or just get a new one. AdvanceAuto had mine in stock. (~$15 ?) I cleaned mine about 6 months ago, worked for awhile, then I just replaced it.

Try moving around your multi function switch. Turn left turn signal on, try the brakes, right turn signal on, try the brakes, high beams on, try the breaks.

If any spot while moving the multifunction switch makes the brakes work, the MFS is bad. Although it sounds like your problem either way to me.

Thank you for the reply. This morning the car would only turn over and not start, sounded like no spark. Being 0 degress outside I had it towed to a shop Iuse and they did a diagnostics on it. There were 2 fuses blown one in the engine comparment and one behind the radio, problem solved. Hope this may help anyone else. Cost to me $92.00 total, so to me worth the price because it was no hassle for me.

Well that doesn't make any sense?

If the decklid brake light was working than the fuse for the brake lights was good since the same fuse supplies power to all three brake lights. The turn signals are on a different bulb. So how could a blown fuse cause the right/left brake lights not to work?

Did not make any sense to me either but the problem is fixed. Electrical problems are confusing to me at times it's why I prefer to work on my older cars from the 60's and 70's a lot less crap to figure out.
