Look, I know this idea is crazy but....

...Just hear me out. I've always wanted to take an 80's 'burban and gut the engine bay to swap out the old lump for one of GM's newer direct-injected engines. Possibly the 260HP 2.0T or the 304HP 3.6. I know this idea is pretty crazy; is it possible? Would these engines even be able to handle it? Imagine, big engine power, little engine fuel economy. Would be pretty funny to rev it up and hear the whine. :naughty:

I don't think you'll get the economy that you're hoping for. Mainly because the power needed to push that big hunk of metal through the air will force the turbocharged engine to rev higher to make the necessary power. Where big motors have the advantage is low-rev torque to get the truck moving without alot of revs...200 HP on tap at 1500 RPM for a V8 versus 5000 RPM for a blown 4-banger.

Then mate that wheezing, spinning mess to a transmission with some ungodly stall speed torque converter because it will not be able to lock up...ever. Resulting in fried transmission fluid and associated tranny.

Funny thought, but I think all your work to try this won't give you quite the satisfaction after your first burned up tranny and warped head.

If you REALLY wanted to try it, go for diesel parts (such as FUSO/Mitsubishi) since they're made for more heavy duty stuff, and probably have a turboed 4-banger & tranny setup in a panel van chassis.

with enough money anything is possible but i agree i dont think you will get the results you are hoping for, now what i want to do is drop in a cumins
