What is the difference between the long block and short block. Have a 89 celica ST having trouble finding engine to replace it. But, it seems that the is a short and long block. What if any is the differnence.
Another question does anyone know the weight of the engine without the tranny.

The short block is just the assembled block with what is directly inside the block between the head gasket and the oil pan flange: pistons, rods, crank, bearings. Basically, what would be replaced with major engine overhaul.
No heads, cams (if OHC), valves, accessories, manifolds, torque converter, etc. It is a very generic engine which can be used in many applications.
Long block is the short block plus installed heads, cams, valves - basically, the power of the engine. No accessories, torque converter, manifolds, fuel injection components, etc.
