Icman281: No, I make it a point to shun Honda owners, that's why I hang out here.

Twinsrule62: If it's an automatic, then yep, that's the insane gearing they come with. The automatic is NOT the thing to have in a Metro.

It shouldn't be turning that much. I have a 96 auto it turns about 3600 at 65mph with a 175/70/13. Are you sure its going into 3rd gear?

I don't think that's right Mike, that number is less than a 5 speed three cylinder. I just used an online RPM calculator, first I checked my 5 speed 4 cylinder, and it said 3200 rpm, exactly what I see. Then I checked a 5 speed 3 cylinder, it said 3650 rpm at 65. For an automatic 4 cylinder (the only way you could get one after 95) it said 4000 rpm, but keep in mind that there's no allowance for torque converter slippage in that calculator, so it's going to predict a little low for non lockup automatic, like Metros got. I've never driven one with an auto and a tach, but I know there was a lot of slip, try accelerating past 65 mph or decelerating past 65 to see what the difference is, I'll bet it's 2-300 rpm.

Woodie,
My 96 has a tach with an auto. I drive it on the road a lot and at 65mph the tach is just a tick over 3500. I don't know how accurate the factory tach is it could be off i really don't know. Keep in mind i do have a bigger tire than stock thats why i listed my tire size in my previous post. I know i'm at 65 though because i use my GPS more than the speedo more mph on the road.
