Hello AF! I started another Ferrari since my other project hit a snag. While that one is on time-out, I began what was supposed to be the car I planned on starting this winter. I tried to tackle opening the doors, which I have never done, and failed. Wish I had seen the advise given here on opening doors on convertibles before I started. So I found myself waiting on a new body :banghead:

My plan is to paint the car Tamiya's deep metallic blue. The interior color will start with Citadel's Solar Orange as a foundation that I will teak to look more like baseball glove orange :) Very little will be done to the body, perhaps a front diffuser since I am trying to make nexts moths show near Chicago. I also have Crazy modeler's PE and a few options on wheels that I will tackle later. So here we go...

I wanted to try replicating suede using embossing powder as I had seen on this site before and like the look of it.

Looks great. Maybe a bit fuzzy but real bright. The whole interior looks very detailed, just the thing for a 'vert'. What seats are those?

Thanks for the replyand compliment Ferrari TR. The seats I got from...chihchieh (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=230778)! Took me a bit to remember. Great price too :licka: As far as the fuzz........ thats's how my house is. After 8 years of expensive furnace filters I hav nothing to show for it :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Hello AF! Trying to keep up with these builds. Sadly my laptop broke and was able to finally borrow one to keep posting :) I am keeping it as simple as time allows to only do so much. I put the suspension together to chck the car's stance, and even though I wishe the front was a little lower,I can live with how it looks. I considered a few wheels and went with the Gram Lights as they have a nice aluminum look which I think work well with Tamiyas Deep metallic Blue. I did a lot of heat staining on the exhaust even though it will no be visible. I am also going to add some CF to the engine area. That's all for now. Thanks for looking

Nice job on your ferrari! When i was looking at the pictures with different wheels, i thought to myself "please use the shiny aluminum wheels" and then i looked at the other update and there they were! Good job man

HAHA Thanks! I was leaning on painting most of those in an aluminum color anyway. As a matter of fact I favored the Kranze due to them hving CF lips :grinyes:

Cool progress, seats came out nice along with the whole interior. Although the seats look a little high once inside.

After some issues with paint I decided to strip it and start all over. I was sooo close  And with what Ilearned today about laquers, I would rather use urethanes to see what happens before starting my Scuderia. This also opens the possibiliy of somewhat replicating the NGT bumper

More later, it's time to sleep.....

Hello everyone. I have not done much since I had paint issues besides research and a little shopping. I chose to stay with a blue color and came across a few tempting options. So I narrowed it down to this from house of kolor.

Which looks like this:

I plan on painting the car soon. I just have to decide if I am going to chane the bumper or not. See you soon....

Hello AF! I decided to paint the car last night and must say that I am thrilled to have gone this route. I started with adhesion promoter and primer on body since i did a little work on the bumper a few days before.

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5013/5579738814_5aa5786112.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/32276941@N05/5579738814/)

After wet sanding and allowing it to dry I got started on basecoat. 1 mist coat followed by 1 light and 2 wet coats.
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5265/5579154023_e13beaedac.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/32276941@N05/5579154023/)

The basecoat got 1 mist coat, 3 medium coats and 2 wet coats. I love this stuff. Pearls turn paint from blue to purple depending on angle. Sadly the color does not come thru in pics

After a quick pizza slice I got to the clear. I put on a mist coat followed by 2 wet coats. I cant get over how smooth this stuff goes on!

So shiny and I have not polished it yet :)
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5183/5579740556_a02aa93b7d.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/32276941@N05/5579740556/)

I could not resist so a few hours later I had to put the body on the chasis
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5020/5579742988_5bc3e92afd.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/32276941@N05/5579742988/)

I did have a problem. When i painted the car previously with tamiya everything looked fine. Now the mold lines I showing :runaround: I guess this paint is very unforgiving, so it needs a perfect surface. That said I don't regret painting the car. It was a good learning experience. I will just have to get a new body form tamiya since this IS the color I want for this car.

Comments/advise welcomed. See you soon and thanks for lookin!

This shot is not the same as the earlier one. It's shot at a lower angle to show how the surrounding area reflects on the paint.

As long as you get a quality urethane clear you should be ok. So far I love the stuff :naughty:

I am yet to reach such a result with zero paints and 1K (or even 2K) clear. Ok, I am not as good as most of you in this forum, but I am learning a lot from all of you. I just hoped I had more time for my hobby.

The key are wet coats. I tac coat followed by 2 very wt coats. To the point where you might get runs. Runs on clear are easy fix :)

Well I got a new body and got to do a little work. I sanded the mold lines and opened the rear. This is just a trial fitmnt to see how it looks. I'm thinking that the mesh should be smaller, but this was all I found in my are so it will have to do.

Ferrari TR

I think finer mesh would look better. I was lucky (?) i found some Special Shapes PE brass at my LHS.
Where did you get the new body from, and how much did it cost? I need a couple of parts for my 'parts' 360 kit.

Ferrari TR you can call tamiya in cali I believe and order parts at 800 826 4922. I also wish i had finer mesh. I'll see what happens.

So here we are. After getting some time to work on new body, I finally got it painted and figured I would post them as a mini update :) I hope that I can have it polishes by tomorrow so that I can start assembling this puppy

Thanks for looking

hmm, I think a different type of mesh is what you want too as well as finer.
maybe this one (http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/shop/kamka00009.html)?

i'm pretty sure that the challenge rear mesh is a circular pattern.

Hello AF! After a busy time I finally managed to get back on the horse. I got to work and finished a few ouch ups on the body, then got to putting the kit together. The mesh for the rear grill did not come in in time, so I decided to use the one I had. I know that it's not like the 1;1 version, but it's what I had on hand, and I happen to like the bigger openings since it gives a better view inside. I also used the PE wipers on the plastic arms since they look better in my opinion. I must say I really like this color. Blue is probobly my fav car color, and this one rocks! Sadly I'm not a photographer, so I have no idea how I can get this color to look right on pics.

Anyway here are some pics. Let me know what you think :)

I believe I am done with this one. Fixed paint problem to the best of my abilities and I must say. I LOVE URETHANES! Only thing that upsets me is that despite how much I checked the stance, once assembled it's a little off :frown: Here are some quick pics since I'm on my way out. Will post Finished pics later.
