Oil leak from Distributor shaft??? Possible? Truck also runs rough at low rpm..Have to run in D (4 speed auto) under 50 MPH to run better. I noticed when truck started running rough I developed a small oil leak (3 inches in diameter) overnight. This happens pretty well daily.
Thanks, Pete

most 20yr old vehicles leak . did you check the ignition components ?
oil leaks do not cause the engine to run poorly.
low power can be a bad converter .
how much oil do you add every 1000miles ?
If the distributor cap has oil IN IT , I would replace the distributor.

Oil coming out the distributor shaft INTO the inside of the distributor is uncommon.
Oil drooling down the back of the engine because the distributor gasket is bad is not so uncommon.
Running rough can be a dozen things. What is the cranking compression pressure of all eight cylinders? What is the fuel pressure? Any codes or SES light? When was the last tune-up?

Hey Pete,
Pull the vacuum line off your EGR valve and cap it. See if it idles and runs better?
Then replace the distributor shaft o-ring gasket and have the timing re-set.

Is it the distributor leaking or the oil pressure sending unit? Many Chevy engines have the oil pressure unit in the block next to the distributor.
