A bit of history:
The Americans after World War II, left/sold their military Jeeps (Ford/Willys) to Filipinos. What they did back then was something unique: they customized the Jeeps and made it to passenger jeepneys and owner-type jeeps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeepney

Today, they are locally made in the Philippines except for the engines (Toyotas, Mitsubishis etc.).
