Noise from front when going over bumps

There is a noise coming from the front end of my E whenever driving over bumps or uneven ground at slow speeds. It sounds like it's coming from the suspension area.
I pulled off a tire and checked the lower control arm bushings, which appear fine (no play at all). So it could either be the swing arm (sway bar?) bearings/bushings or the struts.

The noise is a 'popping' or loud knocking noise, whenever the weight of the car shifts from one side to the other.
I've hear the noise consistently in these two conditions: driving over a VERY bumpy patch of road (tree roots pushed the asphalt up) or when driving over a smooth but slightly uneven surface - like a parking lot (and the slight depressions in the ground cause the car weight to shift side to side).

Any ideas?

Usually it's the sway bar end links. If they or one is bad you should be able to grab the sway bar near the end link recreate the noise by pulling up & down.

check your upper control arm. there are three things that go bad on them and allows your steering knuckle to hit against your coil spring. and the three things are. the rubbers on the two pivot bolts, in the back of the control arm and or the ball joint. you can check it by raising your car, secure it, than kick on th tire or simply push and pull on th tire in and out. good luck and be safe!!!
