1997 sunfire 2.2 auto when turning left or right makes a knocking noise under the drivers and passangers floor, we thought it was ice build up around the cv boots as we freq had to use the windshield brush to free up any build up but all the ice has melted and the noise is still present. what should i start looking at in terms of repair? :banghead:

Just been fixing the same thing myself so it's either your struts or your wheel bearings(hubs). If you hear the noise from the front and rear of your car it's time to replace all of em at once.
Go to a shop like Midas that will do a free inspection, make sure you ask them to pay special attention to your struts, wheel bearings and ball joints(might as well have a look).
Now you are in a position to fix the worst problems first. If you are good at fixing cars or a handy man kinda guy the wheel bearings and struts should be no problem to do in the back yard driveway.
When/If you do the struts I highly suggest you buy the econo-matic whole strut assembly, all you need to do is pull old strut/spring off in one shot and replace as a whole unit.
Below is a video showing how to replace the rear wheel bearings(hub).

Below is a video showing how to replace/re-install rear break assembly.

I have no video for the strut assembly refit so you will need to figure that one out.
Hope this helps.

sounds like c/v joint they make a noise when you turn as your saying but first jack it up and see if theres any play in bearings also check your stable lizer links and bushings.

im thinking cv axle. is it more of a clicking or knocking? its really hard to tell if its the bearings or the cv axle without lifting the vehicle and fully inspecting each component. it could very also be a bad ball joint or tie rod end
