Brake problems?

1998 S-10 2 WD
Backed it into my garage last Friday night after work as I always do. Tuesday morning got in the truck, put it in drive, and nothing. Stepped a little harder on the gas and something broke free (like tires were frozen to the ground) and it moved out of the (50 degree) garage, but brakes were definitely on. Pretty sure back ones.
Backed up and went forward a couple times and they seem to be all the way off now. Parking brake never was on.
Any ideas on this??

Also (don't know if related) the last couple weeks the truck whines so loud somewhere in back that you can barely hear the engine. The faster, the louder.
Check rear end for grease level?

i would check e-brake it may be to tight also if you have been going threw snow it has probly got up into your drums and could have frozze and locked brakes? have you had a chance to take wheels and drums off to check?

I could believe that maybe if the truck sat outside for days, but it didn't
E-Brake is not used, but works fine

then i would take drums off and check brake shoes see if any brake fluid or oil on them. but i think they were just frozze.

Thanks and yes i would check rear end fluid i have a 91 s/10 and the rear end takes tranny fluid. sorry i didn't read enough on your post.

My '96 Jimmy took 75W-90 gear oil, not transmission fluid. Check the owner's manual for the right stuff to use, particularly if you have either a limited slip (likely for 2WD) or locking rear differential (4WD).

you may be right i know i took tranny plug out because my s/10 is manual and it's tranny fluid in the tranny and i thot in rear end but now i recall it was 80/90 in rear end. my bad..
