Check for leaks, check the bushing & ball joints all around, pull the spark plugs and check to see if they indicate any issues with the way the engine is running (too lean or too rich), check the compression of each cylinder, and listen for any abnormal noises. If you don't have the time or don't have the knowledge to check all those things, take it to a trusted automotive technician and have them look over the car.

140K could be perfectly fine, it is a Honda after all, but it could be bad. There's really no way of knowing if it was taken care of or beaten on. I purchased a '94 civic years ago that has 168K something miles on it, and the car was flawless physically and mechanically. I've also seen Hondas with far less miles on them, that were beat on bad and their engines were close to throwing a connecting rod. It's really hit or miss unless you have the car checked out. Remember a car is more than just transportation, it's an investment.

Good mileage for a 14 year old car, but I agree with spoonie, get it checked out before buying by a mechanic
