Does anyone know if the trailer hitch that comes on the 2011 Avalanche with the heavy duty trailering pkg is a Class IV weight-distributing type hitch?

Thanx.

Check with your GM dealer and sales department.
Your GM parts man can run you vin no and find out what parts they have on them.

Thanks, MT. I am considering purchasing an Avalanche. I don't have one now. I asked the dealer (via email) the exact question I posted here and his reply was "Yes, it has a trailer hitch". That was why I was hoping someone who already owns one might know the answer. I have seen several Avalanches in parking lots, etc., and they look like they all have the same kind of hitch but it is hard to tell by looking if it is a Class IV. Maybe I will try some more research at GM.

Catch ones of them dealer salesman and pin him down on it and if you are ready to but get it in all in righting.
You should be able to buy it the way you want it.
Trailer hitches are probably or can be put on/installer by the dealer after they get them.
Good luck

Question to you is...what kind of weight are you planning on towing? GVWR is 7,200 lbs and GCWR is 11,000 lbs., and rated at 8,100 lbs towing capacity...8,000 for AWD (according to official GM website http://www.chevrolet.com/avalanche/).

Unless you are towing above ~5,000 lbs, you shouldn't have to worry about stability that the distrbuted hitch would provide. But according to the fine print on their trailering poster: http://www.chevrolet.com/assets/pdf/en/overview/11ChevTraileringPoster.pdf

it states that a weight-dstributing hitch and sway control is required over 5,000 lbs, implying that the hitch that comes on it is not such.

[EDIT] However, to use logic, in order to tow what the truck is rated for it would have to be a Class IV hitch which by most standards are weight-distributing. It may just not come with the additional hardware needed to use a WD hookup.

Hope this helps!
