if you street race you're going to get the law coming down on you no matter what
Drifting is classified as dangerous driving. Cops consider a skidding vehicle to be out of control so its best left on a track

don't be worried about the "drift your civic" thing. i was worried too when i first saw it, but now that i bought a copy of the magazine, i found that it's not as bad as i worried. all that it is, is a question and answer with some of the "big names" in the north american track racing scene. they ask the guy's opinions about whether or not FF cars can drift. they ask guys such as Roger Foo (SCCA racer, drives a Protege 5, he answered "no"), Benson Hsu (proprieter of www.sileightymania.com, winner of amateur drift contest at Drift Showoff, he answered "no), Bryan Norris (SoCal drifter, drove the JIC 240SX at Drift Showoff, answered "yes" surprisingly), and a couple of others. more people answered no then yes, and there were no step-by-step instructions or anything like that. all it was, was the questions and answers. so don't be worried! in fact, i highly recommend you pick up an issue. it's pretty fappin' good for a first try. the only error i noticed was that they labelled Koguchi's red 180SX (the one he had at Drift Showoff) as having a CA18DET, and right beside that, there's a blatant picture of his SR20DET, the actual engine in that car. but oh well, can't be perfect. and i've started to stop worrying about drifting getting big. as long as it doesn't go totally ricey and played out, then who cares? we drift to have fun, so as long as we're still having fun, who cares if some little rice-boy crashes his Civic trying to drift? just keep it on the track, and have fun.

now that I think about it. Drifting won't become over blown like street racing simply because it takes some skill to, consider your self good at drifting. plus you go through tires like once a month or less

true, and once those little ricers scrape their 4,000 dollar paintjob they'll be like, "OH S***, NOT MY PAINT!" stupid f***ers, when will they ever learn

You say that, but it will be the same. Some stupid ass ricer will try and drift a 30mph street intersection corner at 70mph, because he saw some professional driver do it, on a closed course, with a car setup for that, and then the media will blow it all out of proportion, and everyone that does it legally, and responsibly will get the blame for it.

they show you how to make a cost-effective drifter out of a Ford Mustang. it was worse then the Civic article, trust me.

Whats wrong with using a mustang as a drift car? The fox bodies are FR, relatively light weight and have gobs of torque that's great at getting the rear to step out. Theres a guy over at club4ag.com that uses a mustang to drift and I'm pretty sure he did pretty well at the last drift day.

I'm partial to that school of thought, too. Heck, Car&Driver did an article on drifting using that club over in Hawaii as the example. And one of their top members uses a 3rd gen Camaro.

that's Chris. he's a nut...but see, he can actually control that car. controlling a Camaro is alot different then controlling a 240SX. you gotta learn a totally different technique, as it's a bigger car, bigger engine, and a bit undersophisticated compared to some of the Japanese cars.

because people were talking about how Camaros and 5.0's make good drift cars even though they're unorthodox, so i expanded on their point. were you not reading the previous posts?

Simple, all the time. He sets the fastest laps, therefore he is driving the fastest and to drive the fastest one must use a proper 4 wheel drift technique.
Tsuchiya, while being an incredible driver, possibly one of my favourites, he isn't famous for drifting, he's famous for sliding. In the purest sense of the origional racing term "Drift" it only applies while the front tires are pointed in the direction of the turn being taken, or at best straight ahead. If you have to counter-steer at all it's not a drift anymore, it's a slide.
A true, origional four-wheel drift is the technique where the limit of adhesion of the rear tires is exceeded before that of the front tires causing the rear slip angle -b- to be greater than the front slip angle -a-
When b>a then the rear of the car slides, rotating the vehicle so as to align it better for the exit of the turn therefore saving time at the exit and making your times lower. Once you have to counter-steer your no longer drifting, your sliding.
So, the point of this whole thing was that since a drift is a technique used to save time and make you effectivly faster, the best drifter is obviously the fastest driver. Since F1 is the fastest driving class there is and Schumi's the one dominating it, he is therefore the drift king:biggrin:

WHAT? behave, he races, if he drifted he would be as fast as the drivers at Jaguar who have no grip again this year, that traction control is working over time. Schumacher is usually on the limit of grip, (he races), past that and it is slower. Oh yeah and i drifted my Ford just this wkend, its a 1990 sapphire RS Cosworth RWD, fords can do it too.
