Electrical problems with a 96 Explorer XLT

Just bought this car, and after a couple of days the electrics started going wacky. When I turn the car off, the lights on the lower corner of the inside of both front doors stay lit. Everything electric works even with the keys out of the ignition.

I dis- and re-connected the battery and the problem is still there.

Any suggestions? Thanks a ton.

It's pretty common for the door pin switches to fail on this vintage of Ford. Unfortunately the switches are located in the door latches with makes this a bit more difficult to confirm. Often some electrical parts cleaner will provide a pretty long term fix without replacing the physical switches.

Do the dome lights come on when the door is opened and go off when the door is closed, or do they function similarly to the door lights?

With the exception of the light on the door staying on, everything functions properly. But, it also functions properly without the keys in the ignition.
