Intermitent blower motor

I first noticed an issue when the blower in my '00 GT would blow heat on all settings except #1. I recently replaced the blower motor & resistor & most of the time all settings work, occasionally none work. I noticed that if I start the car & no heat is blowing it will sometimes work again if I turn the car off & back on. Sometimes when none of the blower speeds are working I turn the dial back & forth & eventually only setting #5 will work. This has me stumped, any ideas?

Do you have any other accessories not working? High probability a bad ignition switch.

Wow, you hit that on the head. For some time now I've been having an issue with my ignition. When turning my car off, the key will not come out unless I depress the release mechanism under my steering column. I read a few months ago that the ignition problem is caused by either something in the steering column or shifter. I was planning to start at the ignition but had no idea it could affect the climate controls. I purchased an ignition part from napa (the only part they had) but my mechanic said it was the wrong part. The part I got from napa included the cylinder with two keys.

If you need a reasonable GM/AC Delco parts source send me a PM. Stick with the AC Delco brand since there are several versions depending on what model you have. Last one I purchased was well under $100 to include shipping. Also, the R&R procedure for ignition switch replacement s located at our Tips & Maintenance forum. See link below.

Great, thanks. My mechanic told me I needed a ' housing' in order to fix my ignition problem. Does it sounds like he's confused?

See thread below. It has pics and show the part which is called ignition switch and harness assembly. The key cylinder/tumbler is in the column housing and doesn't need to be replaced in most cases.

I'm agreeing with Bob. The ignition cylinder is a separate piece and isn't usually related to this issue. It's the contacts in the electrical portion of the switch, not the mechanical key/cylinder. The only exception to this would be is if you have a huge heavy key ring dangling from the column. This will prematurely wear the cylinder out.

Cool, now I know where to start. Quick question, what is the purpose of the lock module assembly (#15) shown in the photo.

For one it holds and helps activate the ignition switch assembly (module part with contacts) and interfaces with the key release solenoid. Also, with the steering wheel lock after removing the key.

I haven't had a chance to update but all is working again. I didn't have time to install the new ignition switch myself so I had it done at a local shop. My mechanic did not believe the ignition switch was the cause, so the first thing he did was modify the button under the column so it can be pressed with a finger instead of inserting a pen etc. I was upset about this & I wonder if he did it honestly trying to help, or trying to prove that he was right about the ignition switch not being the cause, like a sort of cover up. I had to drop the car off when he did the work so I wasn't there to tell him to just install the switch & see if the key comes out. I'm happy everything is working but this reminded me that it pays to do things yourself! Thanks everyone.
