I removed the air intake tubing, and right at the front of the throttle body is a metal mesh filter. Can and how do I remove it?

(an image of it is attached).

It really isn't a filter. It is an air difuser that creates turbulance in the air stream to better atomize the air and increase power. You can remove the screen by removing the metal ring on the outside of the screen. However, you may find that the car will not run as well once you remove it.

I only want to remove it to clean the throttle body, I would put it back on if I could get it off.

Once removed, cleaned and replace, are we still talking any further issues? I was thinking the same but instead I just sparyed it down till no more dirty fluid and it was straight clear afterwards.

I was advised to take the sensors out (iac, iat, maf, tps), take the throttle body off the intake manifold, clean it with the tb off, dry it, and put it back on.

To remove just remove the C-Clamp/snap ring. You can use snap ring pliers or a small screwdriver. Be sure to re-install or you may get MAF sensor issues or an erratic idle.
