Weird thing that happened

I have a 1997 Civic. This morning the car was parked on a hill and was low on gas. Went to start and started for a second then stalled. Tried to start again same thing. Third time would not even turn over. I put some more gas in it and thought maybe the battery was dead but the battery turned out to be fine. Well I decided to give up for the day and shut the hood. After I shut the hood I tried one more time and it started right up. I am thinking maybe a loose something but what? Thanks for any help

Well the low gas thing had nothing to do with apparently. I tapped on the starter solenoid and it started up. Apparently slamming the hood mimicked the tapping. So I guess the solenoid is going bad.

So how do I know whether it is the starter or the solenoid?

If you tapped on the starter solenoid and it started after that and checking all the wire connections. Then it is time to replace the starter. It sounds like it is sticking and will be less of a hassle to change it so you don't have anymore problems.

could also remove it and take it to your local auto parts store to have them test it
