shifter cables

So I have had the plastic shifter base on my ZX3 break on me and I have replaced it. However I was still having the issues that the tranny cables were popping up and out of its clip. I thought I would remedy the situation with two 75# zip ties on each cable but now instead of popping up the pop forward and or backward. Do my cables need a lube or replacement or do I need to fab a metal bracket to secure them?
