WOAH, I am actually building something (AMT ASTRO 95)

To start out, here's my plan:
AMT GMC Astro 95 done up in Lee Way Freight Lines decoration with AMT's Tandem Exterior Post Van set made up to be used but not exactly abused. Built out of box with mainly weathering details, but a few modifications and parts from other kits tossed in to accommodate my final goal. And here's my only refference pic for a real astro (titan) in Lee Way decorations. I used to go past the Lee Way depot in Oklahoma City just about every week and my dad would stop at the gates to let me see the trucks going in and out. This is the way I remember them, before they went to the "top kick" type truck.

Let's start with the chassis and engine. Nothing special, just some light dust for now on the chassis, some...ok...a LOT of oil coming out of the Detroit V8 that came in the kit.

and just for fun, a set of wheels I was preparing for a 68 Roadrunner I botched the paint on, and subsequently had to strip. Maybe a set of Torque Thrust Duals would be a cool set of wheels to make for a custom truck some day?

I have the fuel tanks and air cleaner can prepared and ready for primer, final sanding/checking for flaws, and paint. Tanks will be bare aluminum with road dirt and the filter can will be gloss black with chips and road film as well.

Here are the 2 rear axles also ready for paint and weathering. Not much to talk about, other than it took like 4 hours to get these things to look this good (and really, that isn't saying much).

Here's a close up of the American Racing Torque Thrust wheels that will be going on the Roadrunner. I did a special treatment to the tires that I learned from a random search for detailing tips. I will be doing the same to the tires on this truck, so be prepared for a small writeup/how to in the near future.

Thanks for looking and remember, constructive criticism is better than just telling someone that their stuff looks like crap. So if you think it looks like crap and have a better way of doing things, by all means let me know. I love to learn better ways to make my builds go more smoothly or just look better.

Looks good. I can't say i remember 'Lee Way' but i was trying to keep from getting run over by Semi's in my Chevelle most of the time back then too.

Nice start, Ken. But I would not apply so much dirt to the engine. I like to use washes to accent panel lines and cavitys on the engine and chassis and cab panel lines too.

Yeah. I kinda went overboard with it. We'll just say its time for the million mile overhaul. Hahaha

I hope some of you are familiar with this model. I didn't think to take a before pic of the TERRIBLE looking belt set up. This took around 2 hours to fix this representation of belts to look a bit more like a reasonable facsimile of what would be on a real Detroit diesel.

This was all done by removing material. No separation was made of the original part, just scribing and removal of the original plastic.

I know AMT kits need a lot of prepwork, keep up the great work. Nice job on the belt and pulleys. Looking forward to more progress, I really enjoy these rigs.

Hey guy's how about a link to the truck stop I keep hearing about? rsxse240: the work so far looks great, I would say to put some wear and dirty appearence in the pully groves.. Not enough to look like the belt color but it looks very clean in there as it is.
