Do anyone have a procedure on how to remove the trunk spoiler lens on 2001 camry. I need to replace the LED light as my brake light is ON on the dash. I already removed the four screws at the bottom of the lens, but it seems the lens is glued or something, and I may apply enough force to break. Has anyone replaced it and Would appreciate how.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Have you confirmed that the LED assembly is truly broken? You can check the wiring harness going to the trunk lid for breaks as well as the stop lamp failure sensor. As these age, they can cause the warning light to come on as well.
It is not shown in the repair manual stickied to this forum. If you can post a pic or two that might help. But I would suggest buying a body/trim clip removal tool and wrapping it with tape to help prevent marring the painted surfaces as you pry.

I have managed to remove it today. The led lights do come on but a few are dim and not bright. I have disconnected the wiring connector to the led assys , but the brake light did not go away. I will check for wiring damage, but which sensor are you referring to and where is it. Would appreciate location of the sensor.

I forgot to mention how I removed the spoiler LED lens. I used a plastic scrapper and separated the lens from the spoiler. Apparent there is a tape that the lens is glued to the bottom of spoiler. I worked at it slowly and managed to separate it with no damage to the spoiler and lens. Also, I made sure that the 4 screws that hold the lens were removed prior to prying the lens out.

I did find the location of the stop failure sensor. It was on the left side drivers side by the trunk left wall. I removed the connector and checked for any bent pins. All looked normal. I understand from the person I purchased the car from that the sensor was recently replaced by Toyota. My problem is the yellow stop light on the dash. It comes ON whenever I push the brake pedal one time after starting the car, and it remains ON. I have read other posts and it notes that the stop sensor and computer will turn the yellow light ON anytine a light bulb fails or about to fail. So this bring a question mark to my spoiler lens, where I have 12 bulbs out of 60 total that are really fainted and the remaining are bright illuminated. So it may seem that I need to replace the spoiler lens, but still have doubts on why would Toyota design it this way. I have made a visual check of the wiring, but all appear to be good, but will reinspect thoroughly soon. JD do you concur, or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok JD, I decided to take the extra step to go by your recommendations for the stop lamp failure sensor. So I swapped sensors between my 2001 Camry and my 1997 Camry, and the problem followed. This confirmed for me that it is the Sensors. I will replace it.
Thanks JD !!!

Sounds like you got it before I could respond. My guess is the LED assembly, since it draws much lower amperage, would be more sensitive to increased resistance inside the sensor module.
Hopefully, you were able to reinstall the tape to keep water from getting in. Congrats on finding the problem!
