belt ripping

i have a 97 v6 sohc the belt tenioner went and the belt so i replaced both and then started it and the new belt sreaded two grooves off from it any help is greatly apreaciated

When replacing any accesory belt I run the engine with the new belt on for just a second then carefully check that it is fully on each pulley. Yours might have been off a couple ribs on a pulley. It's easy to do.

Agreed. The only time I've seen belts shred like that is if they were not properly aligned on all pulleys.

ya that was the problem good thin i kept the old belt. the funny thing is that the belt is sohc and the belt tenioner is a sohv in the same engine
