1999 Toyota 4Runner Key Problem

1999 Toyota 4 Runner's keyless entry (with new battery) will not unlock the car. The "lock" button works fine. Using the manual key for entry triggers the theft alarm. The only way to stop the alarm is by using the unlock button on the remote, which as stated, is not working. It does not make sense to me that I cannot use the standard key to enter the vehicle. In essense, I am locked out of my own car. Any help is appreciated.

It almost sounds like your Toyota 4Runner seems the keys are still in the ignition. I am aware as my Toyota 4Runner as well as my wife's Tundra and the Tacoma we used to have if you leave the keys in the ignition and open the door and hit the lock button they doors will lock and then immediately unlock as a safety so you don't lock the keys in the vehicle.
