Car won't start, security light STAYS light

Hello all, I'm having a problem with my 2000 Alero V6 115,000 miles. I replaced the blower motor and the blower motor resistor. I then had to take the paneling around the radio off because I knew for a fact the harness that plugs into the knob which controls which vents are blowing (floor vents, defroster, etc.) was disconnected. I reconnected it, and tried starting my car and it only ran for about 2-4 seconds. I saw the security light was on, so I did the whole "passlock" relearn stuff, turned the key to "on" waited ten minutes, turned it to "off" for 5-10 seconds, then to "start" and it still only ran for 2-4 seconds. I also did the three time procedure, (turning it to on for 10 min, then off, then on for 10 min, then off, then on for 10 min, then off, then start,) and still only ran for seconds. I also cleaned the pins where the harness plugs into on the BCM with plastics cleaner. I should probably say I had the battery disconnected while installing the new blower motor and resistor. My battery is almost dead now from all the "relearn" stuff :shakehead. Maybe I touched a wire near my ignition when I had the radio paneling off? Could that have done it? Can I cut the yellow wire near my igniton while the car is on for those couple seconds to disable passlock? Should I just install a new BCM? I know there are many posts LIKE this, but my security light is not blinking at all, it is constantly on when the key is turned to "on". All help is appreciated from my fellow Alero pilots :bigthumb:, us and our leaking intake gaskets, and turn signals that don't work :banghead:

Interesting. When Passlock kicks in the car should not start at all. In other words nothing to the starter. Also, it cuts off fuel injector pulse width modulation. Do you have access to a scan tool capable of scanning GM body/chassis (BCM) codes?

This sounds like mine Bob, I unhooked my battery cause it was dead and now it wont start. Funny thing is my security light isn't on. And my key is a blank one copied at wally world. Was passlock an option in 2000? Maybe mine doesn't have it.

Unfortunately no, I have no scan tool. I also heard it could possibly be the ignition switch and that those are common to go bad in this car? I'm sure you know I obviously had to remove the BCM unit when trying to get to my blower motor, is it possible I just disturbed something in the BCM? Thanks for the input guys. In the mean time, I will try to get hands on a GM scan tool...

Tim, so you don't have the key with the transponder and Olds logo on it? Sounds like the previous owner(s) may had an issue with it. I'm not sure if Passlock was an option back in '00 but many European Chevrolet Aleros didn't have it. Check the SPID label on the spare tire cover and GM RPO codes. Or ask Rich and send him the VIN number so he can check for you.

To the OP. Have you double checked the BCM wiring and connectors. Any broken wires, connectors tight?

Yes Passlock was no doubt an option in 2000. It says in my manual "your vehicle is equipped with Passlock anti-theft system, to reset it, yada yada" or something like that. Anyways, I have a used BCM coming into my local Auto Zone any day now. However they told me it was supposed to here Saturday 1/29, I knew I should have gone to Murrays instead :banghead: I also read on another sight from someone who was having a similar issue with their Alero (car would start, almost immediately stall) and their trunk release and remote for door locks would not work either. I also can't open my trunk or use my remote. He said, "I pulled the fuse in position D, "TRUNK REL/RFA/RADIO AMP" "After pulling this fuse, the car starts.. gauges work etc." So, could it be corrosion in the fuse box or a corroded/wet/bad BCM?
