98 PA MAP Sensor

Got a 1998 PA 230k Series II Vin K, that in the past year I have put 2 new MAP sensors in. The first OEM sensor quit shortly after I got the car, the second sensor lasted about 2-4 months.

I noticed each time there was oil on the bottom of the sensor. It also started using coolant so after reading about the UIM problems I put in a new UIM gasket. There was a lot of oil pooled under the UIM (2+ cups) and it looked like it already had a new gasket/EGR pipe. So I put in the new gasket anyway, sealant, and a third MAP sensor.

It worked for about 2 months before again giving the 'low flow' code, and was using the same amount of coolant. The clerk at O'Reilly's said there should *not* be any oil on the bottom of the MAP sensor and the oil was causing it to fail. What to do?

Your clerk is dead wrong... The MAP sits on top of the PCV... Its going to get oil on it no matter what you do... As for the oil pooling in the lower intake... This happens over time due to the design of the intake and the low areas in the intake... some feel this is cause by oil wicking up the bolts, this is not the case... This is due to the design of the PCV system... Not the best design... Take any L36 or L26 series II/III 3800 apart and you will find varying amounts of oil in the lower intake...

The Aftermarket MAP sensors, MAF sensors and O2 sensors from advance or autozone all suck for GM cars...
