fuel economy

i want to increase the fuel economy on my truck its a 2002 with 4.2 ive heard computer tuners and programmers can work pretty good but ive also heard that cold air intakes can help to ? any suggestions

Pretty much anything that increases hp also increases fuel consumption. They claim fuel mileage by this scenario: Put it under the exact same conditions and ya it might make better mpg. But chances are this, more power = heavier foot = more fuel. The absolute best thing to do to maintain fuel mileage is keep it serviced like it should be, not just oil changes, like filters, plugs, etc. If you are getting "A" mileage, the best you can hope for is the same, the only way to better it is drive with mileage in mind...jackrabbit runs from light to light are hard on it, accelerate smoothly and drive slower are the two best ways. It would simply amaze you how your mileage will increase if you drive with mpg in mind for one tank.....
Sorry to throw a turd in the punch bowl, but reality prevails. Others might sugar coat chips and tuners, but if you are after mileage I would hate to see you waste your money......

the truck has 203000 km on it and yeah i dont want to spend a couple hundred bucks on something that wood not really increase mileage any i do regularily service my truck but dont really drive with mileage in mind

If you are looking for shear numbers then yes, they are great SUPPORTING mods. If you are after numbers you want to get bang for buck and change camshafts and such....
Cold air alone does nothing except support bigger mods. I have been down this road. Bolt ons might claim 5 more hp, but that is at 5000 rpms, not anywhere you are actually gonna feel it. When your are talking cam swaps and such and 40 hp gains, you definately feel that. Bolt ons put the powerband of the engine so far out of wack that you wont even be getting max mpg when driving normally. It all comes back to pay to play. I am a gear head, so constantly want to do this or that to my rigs, but I also understand that my fuel mileage and dependability might suffer.

If it was only a matter of a couple hundred bucks to gain 2 or 3 miles per gallon, car manufactures would be all over it, they would not only be closer to appeasing our retarded government standards, they would have an easier selling car in their competative markets.....
The programmers and such may meet their claims under certain conditions, not calling them liars, but most people will never see that.

yeah im a gear head to but i dont like the idea of tearin apart my daily driver as i need it every day and dont wanna do anythin major

i was just hopin there might be a easy cheap bolt on or a programmer that wood increase my mileage but looks like im just goin to have to stick to regular maintenece and drive better
