I am having a problem with my keyless entry remote for my 1997 gtp. I went out just the other evening and the remote wouldn't work. I replaced the battery in the remote and I tried the remote again and still dosen't work. Do I need to do the reprograming set up that is in the sub fourm or is it something else? Thank You

You could try the reprograming procedure, although it is very unlike that's the problem.

I have the same problem with mine and it's caused by worn out buttons, they have a small carbon piece on the back which makes contact with the PCB and causes each button to activate, when this wears out the buttons will no longer work or you'll have to keep pushing real hard until something happens. There are some tutorials on the web about how to fix this with the keypad from an old remote controller.

Another option is to get only a new pad without the rest...

Have you tried using the panic button?, it is the least used so it should work normally.

Best regards,

Oscar.

The carbon paste that is sold at either, All electronics, Digikey electronics, or MCM electronics. It is sold in a small bottle with a brush attached to the screw top cap that closes the bottle. Once you have repaired the button it should work just like new.

It's good to know that, I hope I can get some of that where I live...

Best regards,

Did you try depressing the lock and unlock at the same time for a few seconds? This is supposed to reset the transmitter/receiver.

Thanks doctorhrdware I went to the electronics store and they had the carbon paste you were talking about. It was 50 pesos (around $4 dlls) and works for A LOT OF repairs.

You killed two ducks with one shot, you have fixed my problem and surely the OP's problem.

Best regards,

Oscar.
