transmission loud between 1st and 2nd

friend says 3rd gear and up seems fine. Tranny oil is fine. It's just really loud and rough, even at idle after I stop it. Is there an external part on the 3.2L V6 tranny that can be fixed/replaced easily rather than opening up the thing for like $1k again?

I have until end of January to decide if I'm junking this thing because inspection is due. :(

ANyway I've already gotten rid of the car.
