2005 Ford Taurus Siezed A/C Compressor

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus and the a/c compressor siezed and the serpantine belt snapped last week. I took it to a shop and they said there is no way to bypass the a/c compressor and there is no one that makes an after market bypass pully for this model.

My question: Can I bypass the A/C compressor on the 05' Taurus with a shorter serpantine belt? If yes, what length should it be? Is this a reliable solution?

Can't you free up the pulley and let 'er spin?

They do exist. I've never done it, so I'd be lying to you if I told you how to do it. You could measure the distance with a tape measure, purchase two or three that are close and just return the ones that don't fit. Just make sure that you don't mess up the routing. (I've done this and it fit right on there, just turned one accessory the wrong direction.)

For your question, it depends if you have the OHV or the DOHC (duratech) engine. If you have the DOHC, you can't bypass the compressor with a shorter serpantine belt. But you can remove compressor and use the Bypass Pulley in the Mark's link. And use OEM or other brands belt for this car.

If you have the OHV (vulcan) engine, you can bypass the compressor with a shorter belt. But I don't know the lenght, since all stock 96-today taurus come with A/C as standard. So you can use Mark's trick to find the appropriate belt for it.

The A/C on the DOHC CAN be bypassed!!! I did it.
I bought the belt at Oreilly. The receipt says the part # is
MBH K060630 Micro-V belt for &15.99. Just route the belt in the red area i have added in the diagram instead of the A/C. You will notice that the ribbed side of the belt touches the smooth water pump pulley now, but this will not hurt anything. The auto parts stores only tell you it cannot be done because they do not show a diagram for these cars WITHOUT A/C like some older cars would show. It is possible. Go try it, and drive another 100,000 miles!

Thanks for the info on the part! For whatever reason though I cannot see your diagram. Would you mind trying to post it again?

Thanks.

Not sure why it's not working. I'm not at my computer right now. Basically you just route the belt from the crankshaft Pully up and over the water pump, then on its regular path the rest of the way. Look at your belt diagram under the hood, and just bypass the ac.

The DOHC diagram doesn't list a water pump.
