************ COMPLETED ***************

hello everyone, I built a revell honda civic kit a while back and i was dissappointed that the kit didnt offer a factory stock look . The sideskirts were molded on and the bodykit bumpers are no where close to stock looking . So i build the kit right out the box . Only thing I added to the kit was some stickers I was experimenting with . I have some things instored for this kit as you will all see . I started tearing it down earlier this week ...
here are the shots of how it sat when i finished the car a long time ago...... use these to compare the difference at the end....

I started sanding down the sideskirts .... i cut the sideskirts off to the door line, then sanded the rest, still needs work . For stock sideskirts im using the revell acura rsx sideskirts , they are short by a lil bit but nothing evergreen cant fix . The rear bumper is salvagable, I just sanded down the bodykit groove it had , trimmed the bottom of the bumper a bit , and gave it the "rear cut bumper" look..... this will be great for when i add suspension goodies (asr plate , lower control arms , lower tie bar etc.)

-THE ENGINE ... H22A TURBO WITH B SERIES TRANSMISSION (H2B SWAP)
I will talk about the motor build briefly here so you can understand the pictures . I scrap built the block of the H22 from o.30 styrene sheet , i used the b series block for measurements , i just made the block a little higher and just a smidge wider , the H22 is bigger than a b series . For the valve cover i just measured the top of the block, cut 3 of the same pieces from the styrene , basic shape rectangle . After glue set , i added one small rectangle tube shape styrene for spark plug cover . i then sanded, cut , filed, the valve cover to look like the 1:1 scale .... random pieces i used from the revell b series were : the timing cover ; alternator ; pulley ; oil pan ; transmission ; distributor ; vtec soleniod ; throttle body ;----- intake manifold was scratch build... turbo manifold i used some solder i had laying around , turbo was from revell toyota supra kit , i had a small turbo laying around ,idk from what kit, i used that as a compressor for the turbo ....... intercooler was made from a 57 chevy cameo radiator .... thats it for the swap for now.....

- here i have the basic shape of the block , and the basic shape of the valve cover. The vlave cover I will shape up to tru form later.
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/modelllsss016.jpg
-put it next to a b series to compare
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/modelllsss017.jpg
-some more work done on the block..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/modelllsss021.jpg
-I shaped up the valve cover hope you guys can see it

- my reference picture of the h22 is in the background
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/modelllsss019.jpg

-here i added the distributor , vtec soleniod, and oil cap.... dizzy and solenoid i took off the b series valve cover and placed them as it would be on the 1:1 scale.....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/modeld004.jpg

-intake manifold** i was going for a racing manifold look, i'll try to google it to get the 1:1 scale info.... made of 0.30 styrene sheet and straight pieces froma the sprue tree of any model kit, throttle body i cut off a b series intake manifold i had laying around

-added the lower support detail using a rectangular styrene strip and the ends were 0.30 styrene sheet

- here it is on the car, glued and plastic welded.... also added some holes like on 1:1 car.... note i cut the front lower chassis down to size to look more real, and a lil of the inner wheel well.....

did some interior work today , im leaving the door and sidepanels stock also rear deck stock..... i removed the rear seats, and "removed" the carpet, i just made the floor looked "stripped" like.......

-here i removed the rear seats and i started plotting on my next move..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO001.jpg
-drew a ruff sketch on a piece of paper of what im ruffly looking for..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO003.jpg
-i layed the first pieces on...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO004.jpg
-added the hump for the fuel pump cover and made the fuel pump cover...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO005.jpg
-another shot and angle....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO006.jpg
-fuel pump cover its getting wrapped in carbon fiber.....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO007.jpg
-did some sanding
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO008.jpg
-put some lines on the floor with a marker
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO013.jpg
-then, instead of adding on to the floor to make the "metal" floor, i took my dremel with a cut off wheel and started scribing the floor...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO014.jpg
- i took a file to finish up the lines on the floor...... also added the cross bar on the floor plan for the seats to bolt up too, and also added the raised metal to bolt up the rear of the front seats....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO015.jpg
-another angle....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO018.jpg
-lol had a scrap piece of photoetch and made a vin plate on the dashboard..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO019.jpg
-also vin plated the tranny .....see if you can see it.......(it's greenish)
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO020.jpg
-started working on the PASSWORDJDM carbon fiber airbag delete..... i cut the center of the air bag out leaving a trim.....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO024.jpg
-added the carbon fiber, i used solva set to wrap it up....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO028.jpg
-here is the back piece of the air bag......0.30 styrene with the carbon fiber decal....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO029.jpg
-here it is finished.... will add clear soon....

---also worked on the radiator support some more, trying to making it more realistic since im leaving the model with no front bumper......

-i trimmed some more plastic of the chassis (black part)
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO010.jpg
-here you can see how much open space there is compared to box stock... i will try to scratch build a traction bar for this model..
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO011.jpg
-another angle
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO012.jpg
-added more styrene to the "frame" part of the rad suppport ....
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO016.jpg
-some inner framing of the rad support...
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO021.jpg

-did another engine mock up so i can line up the rear "t-bracket" for rear motor mount and make brackets for tranny mount
http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/backyardinclll/EJ1PRO023.jpg
-another angle... yes i still have to trim down the tanny brackets....

- did some minor bodywork today......

*here is a pic of the rad support which i did a little more structure to it, and light sanding
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/backyardincv/bodywork006.jpg

* here is what i had sanding up to today, i grinded down most of the "bodykit" sideskirt, and trimmed it all up to the door line....

*closer angle shot
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/backyardincv/bodywork004.jpg

*rear bumper which i cut an opening in the center, local street dragster in new jersey do this...it gives more of an eyeful of the rear suspension setup...also suppose to eliminate wind drag at top speed...... sanded down the "sidevent" bumper had flat.....
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/backyardincv/bodywork005.jpg

* i then took a sharp pointed file, and scribed the rear bumper for more detail as you can hopefully see in the pic...
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/backyardincv/bodywork007.jpg

* when i sanded the lower body panel where the "bodykit" sideskirt was i needed to reinforce it with a scrap piece of 0.30 styrene in back of it. As i was sanding it ,the plastic got real thin, but problem solved.........
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/backyardincv/bodywork008.jpg

*otherside...
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa453/backyardincv/bodywork009.jpg

*I used the revell acura rsx sideskirts for this model . They were a lil short but ill fix that with some styrene ... I tapped everything together , and plastic welded the sideskirts on. they fit on very great, minus the shortness.

Hey, not sure if you fixed the valve cover yet, but there are a couple image editing software programs out there that can allow you to print your own decals. You can go on the internet and find out the exact image that you are looking for and resize it to scale...

I think most hobby shops stock blank decal paper, if not google blank waterslide decal sheets.

Also I believe the program I am thinking of is made by Testors or something...

http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=90054&Category_Code=ALPHA&Product_Count=25

These might work, they are for model trains, but the script looks similar to the 1:1 VTEC on the H22s... These are silver so they match the OEM color as well.

http://www.bnamodelworld.com/decals/metal-transfer-decals-1-24-honda-logos

This says sold out, but I think I also found these on Hiroboy...

Is this the one
http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/custom-decal-system-995506/

I was looking at it the last time I went to Hobby Lobby and decided that if I wanted to buy it just to test it out I would wait for their 40% off coupon and get it for like 6 Bucks. I know I'm cheap but if its something that might not work I'd rather not pay full price.

well, didnt find any wheels i really liked , so i went back to the pegasus drag wheels as i did on my revell civic Si.... only i am going to do something different to the front wheels
-here is a picture of the wheels from the bag
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA002.jpg
-this rim came of a 4x4 toy car..tire is from some muscle car....
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA003.jpg
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA004.jpg

-i decided to make a wider, deeper rim for the front , and use a wider tire as well.....so i cut the 4x4 rim in half and gutted the center............
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA005.jpg

-i placed the cut toy rim on top of the pegasus rim.....
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA006.jpg
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA007.jpg

-here you can see the "skinny's" im putting on the rear ...
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA008.jpg

-i glued both pieces together....
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA009.jpg
http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA010.jpg

- i took off the disc brakes off another model i had laying around, painted the rim face flat red, and scuffed the front tires with 80 grit sand paper..........

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z460/backyardinctoo/AAA017.jpg
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-cut off the stock control arms...... and put in scratched built ones, still needs detail , but when its done you will see difference.....

---- started putting the interior together....also painting somethings in the engine bay, putting up the firewall.....dropping engine in ........here are some pics from earlier......
** I tried the rub on letters, PAIN IN THE A$$ to put on the valve cover... half of the "E" and the whole "C" was painted.... i got it to work with bigger letters on rear window but another letter will just rub off by itself and stick to the window...idk>>>
***also put the "LSD" stamp on the tranny...

^great work on the honda city, and putting an engine detail , really awesome!!!.... keep up the great work. quick question, is it really hard to work with the small fittings, like the ones you used on the valve covers?....
