Does my vehicle have the HT-6 compressor? What are the prefered replacement brands and which ones should I stay away from? Have the "belly leaks" been solved on the OEM version?

Brand new over rebuilt.

Delphi and Ac is good brands.

Parts books show HT-6.
But as always match up with old part.

Get a Sanden.


THe HT6 are prone to Belly leaks. Guess what, they never fixed the problem.

Don't buy the cheap knock of Chinese sandens either.



With the sandens you need a slightly longer serpentine belt. But I read that you can swap on your old clutch and keep the same belt.

The clutch finally went on the old compressor so I replaced it with a new AC Delco plus a new accumulator and orifice tube. Recovered, evacuated and charged to the factory level and replaced the serpentine belt. Car cools great, all pressures and temps are good. The car is running hot at idle with the compressor engaged but fine at speed. How do I determine if the load on the engine from the compressor is excessive? Is this just a case of a new tighter compressor stressing a marginal cooling system at idle or something else. Prior to the repair work the engine temps were perfect at all rpms with or without AC.

BTW, new radiator at 110,000 miles, new coolant and cap at 160,000 miles, heater core bypassed at 160,000 miles. I have been losing coolant for 50,000 miles with no obvious source so I presume its the intake manifold issue.

Update:

During the HVAC repaair I failed to notice that the coolant loss is accelerating and the level had dropped in the radiator. It is topped off and at least for now the temp at idle looks good.

What are the top reasons for coolant loss with no obvious source?

A cooling system pressure test will help locate the leak. Lower intake manifold gasket leaks are very common on this engine. Front and rear corners of the engine where the intake, head and block all come together is a common place. Felpro has an improved design gasket set, part # is MS98002T. If clean up is done properly, bolts are torqued to proper spec and proper tightening sequence is followed, they will not leak.
