Ferrari 360 Spider (Black Widow)

Yes another 360. I just finished a coupe, and i thought a spider would be a nice addition to the collection. A Tamiya kit in the SPC group build as well.
I'm jumping right in to this one.

Basic suspension assembled with tacky glue, for a check of the stance.
I thought it might look good lowered and widened just a bit, but i think it looks fine just as it is.

I guess you can have too much of a good thing.

This is going to be triple black with CF interior trim and a CF or challenge rear grill, black stock wheels are in the plan for now too. CF airboxes are in the plan as well and i'm hoping to source a red tach decal from some other ferrari kit too.

I still need to change the rear shelf pocket to the correct dual spider pockets.

Rims are left over from 'Bad Penny', just a bit more red than i want though.

Challenge front grills, mesh from a Revell 360 is courser than Tamiya's. The nastiness won't show when their installed and painted.

I think the demolition is almost over. I'm almost out of mods on this one.
It is nice to build something that doesn't need to be fixed, where everything fits and the hardest part of building it is making your mods good enough to go with the model not the other way around.

I agree 100%. I dont have a ton of time to model so when I do sit down at my bench i like to build and not solve fit problems!

Are you going to use pe mesh for the rear? I always wanted to do that, but cutting the holes for the taillights is the challenging part. Keep us posted.

Yes I'm going to attempt a metal grill. I don't have any metal yet or my PE decal or some other materials i want for this. So, this may go dormant while i do the OOB (out of the box) chassis and engine building.

The rear window needs a little trimming and the deck lid fit could use some work too. Otherwise, I'm happy. :p

very challenging part of the build (no pun intended) I love watching people do this for the 360, F40 and F50 so when I try I can take from your techniques. Looks good so far!

Time for an update. Scale Motorsport plain weave CF decals, templates made with Tamiya tape. For some reason i thought i could wrap the console with a single decal, luckly i didn't spend too much time on it before i realized that it wasn't going to work. So, four pieces turned out to be a much better solution.

There's a glitch on the door panel, but i think the seat belt will hide it.
I still have guages and detail paint left on the dash, paint detail on the console and the interior tub needs flocking.
I guess i need to get back to it...

I am enjoying the build so far. This is one of my current projects and I enjoy seeing what others do that I either did not think of, or forgot to do. I'm totally stealing the engine cover struts for my version, as well as the detail wire on seats step for one of my future cars. I used a different type brass that is really flexibe but did not think of the trim for it. I will address that once I get my new body since the old one is shot. Keep it up!

The treatment on the rear grille can be tricky. And I vote for the headrest being trimed too. You were obviously having great fun playing around mate, best of luck! I'm a big fan of CF interior too and it'll work perfectly with your red pipes around the seats.

How do you get the green radio face color??????

The radio display was painted Sublime green and then given a coat of smoke. It doesn't show well at 1/1. I was going to mix a little light green with some grey but my green paint was dried up so i went with this instead.

Ok, I did the headrests. I wouldn't say it was easy but it wasn't nearly as hard as i thought it was going to be either. It looks really bad in the picture, i always seem to capture exactly the wrong angle.

I keep thinking i'm almost done with the interior, that i can glue it all together, but there are floor mats and seat belts still to do. I made a key which is getting a remote too.
I though about red belts, but they seem a bit much, i'll decide when i've got the mats done.

A little break from the interior. The engine is painted my version of cast aluminum, model master aluminum with a little flat white mixed in, thinned a little less than i normally would and sprayed from a bit further away then normal too.

I couldn't find any flat red paint so the intake will have to wait till i get to my LHS. I have lots of other bits to play with so that won't slow the progress beyond it's current snails pace. :licka:

Wrapping up the engine. I Don't much care for the way the metal transfers look, they're just a bit too bright for my taste. I may try a semi-gloss clear wash to see if i can tone them down a bit.
I used the same CF here that i used in the interior with a PE pony from the Accustion set and BMF hose clamps. The fuel rails made of square brass look brighter then the really are.

That engine is looking supurb!!!

Not exciting but it has to be done. The chassis parts after the first round of paint. Two different shades of black and two different aluminum finishes along with MM buffing stainless on the brakes.

It's always good to see Tamiya 360 being built.
I've put mine off since it came out because I simply had too many on the go.
Now that I've gotten my arse in gear to finish some of them, maybe it's time to open that box.

Challenge grill completed. Taillight bezels right from the original grill, after un-glueing it from my fingers, CA does have to have it own way after all.
I'm thrilled to have this finished, it fits the rear of the body great, that is, after a bit of trimming and bending.

I've been looking around for some suitable mesh for a 355 and for a 360 and this looks like the best/closest one yet.
who makes it?

are you going to paint it or "blacken it" it?

The mesh is Special Shapes SSM-05 .5mm Diamond Medium Mesh, thats a K&S product.
Alex (360 spider) suggested i use KA KA00009 circle pattern mesh A, I haven't seen it but it may be easer to find.
I've got some black base coat lacquer i'm going to paint the brass with, I've used it on brass before with good results. It's the same paint i used on the wheels though the wheels have a semi gloss clear coat on them.
