So, the problem i happen to be having is with my timing/distibutor, for one reason or another my distibutors have been being eaten, this last one the place where the cap mounts to the distributor broke off, the last time the rotor snapped off, the distributor shaft and gear has been replaced, i was still idling rough with the cam retard at -2 degrees with the new distributor and a fabricated adjustment slide, has anyone had this problem before and if so how was it fixed perhaps a new cam? timing chain and so on?

HAs the distributor shaft ever been replaced as a whole? If it has, was it aftermarket, refurbished or factory oe? How is the actual distributor cam gear, is it worn, worn more at the bottom or top of the gears. I've seen a few shafts go bad, but its important to replace them with good quality parts, or you'll have all kinds of problems with them.

I had this issue with a 2001 S-10. The entire distributor was ultimately replaced. there was over a half inch of wobble in the shaft itself, which snapped the tip off of the rotor. If you do replace your distributor, DO NOT USE ANYTHING BUT AN AC-DELCO DISTRIBUTOR. Aftermarket Distributors, specifically the Distributor Caps will not last.
